I always thought they were separate problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Money. Home. My son. Relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I worried about each one separately, and tried to solve each one separately. But no matter what I did, something would come apart somewhere else. Each time, I’d think “this time will be different” \u2014 and go searching for something new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I spent years inside that loop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was on one particular night that I noticed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Soaking in the bath, gazing absently at the ceiling, a thought suddenly came to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Haven’t I been doing the same thing, over and over?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Back when I couldn’t manage money well, I believed that “if I could just get this one thing, I’d feel whole.” But no matter what I bought, there was always a hole somewhere \u2014 and I’d empty out again just as quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The chaos at home was the same, I think now. I couldn’t find it in myself to care for the space where I spent each day. Perhaps I wasn’t able to value myself enough to try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During my son’s school refusal, I kept searching for answers outside myself. “Maybe this place will change things,” I’d think, moving on to the next and the next. But looking back, it wasn’t only my son’s answers I was searching for. I think I was trying to fill a feeling \u2014 the feeling that who I am right now isn’t enough.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n It was the same in relationships, too. Smiling when I wanted to say no. Letting my own boundaries blur. All of it came from the same fear: I won’t be accepted as I am.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Running through everything was a single, quiet assumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “I am not enough yet.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n That assumption kept me searching outside myself for answers. But because the root never changed, nothing I found ever filled me. Nowhere I went ever felt like enough. And so the loop continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Everything I had worked through in counselling \u2014 it all came together that night, in one quiet moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And before I could feel blame, something else arrived first. A calm, settling recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So that’s why it kept happening.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n As the root slowly began to change, the branches began to change too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I could start to see where my money was going. The house gradually became somewhere I could breathe. I began to practise saying a gentle “no” to the small things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nothing dramatic.
