class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u30fcAmelie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-x-large-font-size\"><strong>Cultivating Room in the Heart<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of another day, I find myself reflecting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, I witnessed a small act of unkindness between children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In my class, there is a child who finds it a little difficult to read the room. Sometimes, the urge to be seen \u2014 &#8220;Look at me!&#8221; \u2014 slips out before they can help it. And the reality is, that kind of child often draws sharp glances from those around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When there is a child like this in the class, I try first to sit down with them and talk. I want them to understand how their words and actions might land in the hearts of the people around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But this is where it gets hard. Telling a child, gently, that &#8220;the way you act sometimes makes others feel a little frustrated&#8221; \u2014 without making them feel rejected, while still helping them understand \u2014 that balance is genuinely difficult. I don&#8217;t want to deny who they are. But I want them to know. Finding the right measure is something I struggle with, every time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, I find myself thinking about the children on the other side, too \u2014 the ones who turn a cold shoulder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believe they need to come to understand, in their own way, that &#8220;everyone is different.&#8221; They don&#8217;t have to like the other child. But to be able to imagine, even a little, what that other child might be feeling \u2014 that small space, that room in the heart, is something I want to help them grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m not trying to force &#8220;let&#8217;s all get along.&#8221; But the capacity to imagine another person \u2014 that, I hope they never let go of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These were the things on my mind today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other hand, I&#8217;ve been reflecting on something else, too. Lately, my connection with a child who finds it hard to come to school has grown thin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A dedicated support teacher works with this child, and the space where that teacher is has become their safe place. That is exactly why stepping into the classroom feels so difficult for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Part of me thinks: maybe it&#8217;s enough that they have a place to belong somewhere within the school. And another part of me quietly hopes: maybe, just a little, the distance between them and the class could close. Between those two feelings, I find myself swaying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But whatever the situation, I never want this to become about my own satisfaction as a teacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;What is this child feeling, right now?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I want to be someone who can always return to that starting point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There isn&#8217;t really a right answer.
